If Brenda had lived until Sunday she would have been nine years old. Many Ionia families had sent her cards and gifts which were given to her and opened upon arrival due to her serious condition. Her delight in them was evident in spites of her illness. Stricken in 1949 with polio the youngster had been adopted by the Ionia Chapter of Infantile Paralysis as their poster girl. She had spent most of the time in 1949 in Grand Rapids hospitals. Her condition became weakened recently when she suffered from pneumonia and because of her prolonged illness she had been unable to combat it. When she became critically ill she was removed to St. Mary’s hospital from Mary Free Bed Guild Convalescent home on January 19. Besides her parents she is survived by four brothers and sisters and grandfather, all of Portland. Funeral services are to be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Neller Funeral home. Burial will be at Portland cemetery.
