Uses Small Knife to Cut His Throat, Wrists, Abdomen and Legs – Ill Health Given as Cause for His Suicide – Died Monday. George Miller, aged about 65 years and a resident of Ronald township, set about to kill himself Monday afternoon and completed the job in thorough manner. It was one of the most cold blooded attempts at self destruction on record. Miller lived about a mile and a half east of the literary hall and he had been in ill health for a long time, a sufferer from rheumatism and other troubles. Monday he determined to end it all. He secured a small pocket knife sharpened for the purpose and going into the house he stabbed himself in the throat, then went out on the back steps and sat down leaning his head over so that the blood would not soil the floor. He evidently had doubts that the wound in the throat would suffice for he arose from the steps and cut himself across the back of the left hand. This cut severed the cords and his fingers closed tightly. Then he laid his hand on the block where they had killed chickens and struck it a blow across the palm with an ax. Before he died he stated that he had done this so that his fingers would straighten out when he was laid out for burial. These wounds did not satisfy him and he severed the arteries in the other wrist, stabbed himself slightly in the abdomen and slashed the arteries and cords under his knees. By this time he had inflicted all the wounds on himself he could and shortly afterwards was discovered by neighbors and carried into the house. Carl Graves was one of those who assisted in carrying him in and to Mr. Graves he stated that he has his nerve and intended to use it. He also said that he had not forgotten how to stick pigs and the wound in the throat was one similar to many which he had given pigs in slaughtering. It was from internal bleeding from this wound that he finally died living about two hours after slashing himself. Mr. Miller leaves a wife and child. The funeral will be attended Thursday.
