Dec. 26, 1935 WELL KNOWN ATTORNEY OF COUNTY DIES Frank C.Miller Passed Away Suddenly Friday While In Clarksville HAD PRACTICED LAW IN COUNTY OVER 50 YEARS Had Held Offices Of Prosecutor, State Representative, And Ionia Mayor Frank C. Miller, 75, prominent Ionia county attorney, died suddenly Friday afternoon at Clarksville, where he had driven from Ionia with Glenn D. Mathews and Raymond Barnes, court stenographer, on business in connection with the Henry C. Walter estate. Funeral services were held from the late home Monday afternoon, the bearers being made up from members of the Ionia county bar, with Ex-Governor Fred W. Green and Fred A. Chapman acting as honorary members. Mr. Miller was born at Burlington, Iowa, but came to Michigan with his parents when a boy. His boyhood days were spent in Kent and Clinton counties, where he attended school and worked on farms. He taught school in the rural sections of Ionia county for a time but later entered the law offices of Morse, Wilson and Trowbridge of Ionia to gain rudiments of law. He was admitted to the bar in 1885 and from that time on practiced law almost continuously in this county. He became one of the leaders in his profession in the State and his council was frequently sought on many important legal matters. He served Ionia county as Circuit court commissioner, as assistant prosecutor and as prosecuting Attorney, and he represented the county in 1909-1910 in the House of Representatives at Lansing. He served the city of Ionia as Alderman, city treasurer and as Mayor, and for 13 years filled the position of city Attorney. He was for several years a member of the county Republican committee and its fraternities and business and social groups. At the time of his death he was a member of Ionia lodge No. 36, Free and Accepted Masons; Ionia Commandery No. 11,, Ionia chapter No. 14, Royal and Arch Masons; Knights Templar; Queen Father chapter No. 35, Order of Eastern Star; DeWitt Clinton Consistery, of Grand Rapids, and Saladin Temple, of Grand Rapids, all Masonic orders; of the Knights and Ladies of Security, and of Ionia lodge 518, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of which he was a life member and past exalted ruler. Of the Knights and Ladies of Security he was some years ago a member of the supreme board, the National governing body of the order. He had been a member of the Modern Woodmen, of the Knights of Pythias, among others with which he had affiliated at various times. For many years he had been one of the active members of the Church of Christ of Ionia in which he had held various offices, at the time of his death being a member of the board of trusties. He was a director of the Ionia Building and Loan association and vice-President and director in the Ionia County National Bank of Ionia, in the organization of which he was an active influence.
