MILLER, HARDWARE MERCHANT, VICKERYVILLE, WILL BE MUCH MISSED Another one of the business men of Vickeryville has being added to the roll call of the great beyond by the passing away of J. Addison Miller, which occurred at his home in Vickeryville November 8, 1920, at the age of 53 years, 7 months and 21 days. Add, as he was familiarly known, was born March, 1867, on the old Miller farm in the township of Bushnell. After finishing his rural school courses he attended high school in Palo and college at Valparaiso, Ind. He began teaching at the early age of 16, teaching one term in the Roy school in Bushnell. one term in the Comstock, also in the Grinnell district and at Blanchard, Michigan, and five years in his own home school. About 25 years ago he located in Vickeryville engaging in the hardware business, in which he continued until his death. In the interim he taught out an unfinished term of school at Vickeryville. Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Mrs. Ada Boughey January 19, 1893. To this union was born one daughter, Florence, who is commercial teacher in the Evert schools. In business he was strictly on the square and from a modest beginning by being energetic, frugal and honest he built up a very large and lucrative business. In a social way Add always had a glad hand. Any worthy cause never went by him unaided. His life can be summed up in the words of Edgar Guest: I would be a clean man, a kindly and serene man. A man that doesn't pose to please the stranger passing by; I would be a game man, in luck or out the same, A man that's unafraid to live and unafraid to die. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife and daughter, stepson, Addison Boughey, of Terrill, Iowa, and stepdaughter, Bessie Howard of Belding, Michigan, one brother, Peter, of near Vickeryville, and three sisters, Mrs. Vica Corey and Mrs. Dora Clark of Vickeryville and Mrs. Nellie McGowan of Fenwick, and a host of friends are saddened by his passing. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church, Vickeryville, Wednesday morning, Rev. H.A. Carr of North Star, a former pastor, officiating. His remains were laid to rest in the Palo cemetery.
