Considerable excitement was created for a short time last Friday morning when the report began to circulate that Mrs. Peep Upson had discovered her hired girl in an unconscious and dying condition when she went to call her, the girl not arising as usual. Hasty ones thought it a case of suicide as she passed away shortly after nine o’clock without regaining consciousness, but the doctors decided it was congestion of the brain. She had complained of a headache the night before and had taken one or two headache powders before retiring. She was a Dane girl, was only 14 years of age, had a sister working at W.L. Reeves’, and her parents reside near Trufant where the remains were taken on Saturday. Justice E.B. Lapham made an investigation into the circumstances and decided that it was not necessary to hold an inquest as the doctors were very positive as to the cause of death.
