Miller, 62, of 567 Grant Street, South Ionia died Thursday, March 5, at his home. He had been ill at his home for several months. Born August 11, 1896 in Ionia, he was the son of Henry and Caroline Miller. He received his education at St. John Lutheran School in Ionia. On January 1, 1937, he was married to Thelma Hicks of Ionia. Mr. Miller lived his entire life in Ionia and for many years was employed in the road construction business. He was associated with T. H. McArdie for a number of years and for the past 17 years was employed at the Ionia County Road Commission. He was an ardent supporter of the Girl Scout movement in Ionia and gave liberally of his time and money to the betterment of condition at the Girl Scout Little House. Mr. Miller was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, veteran of World War I, and member of Gerard-Horrocks Post of American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Thelma, one daughter, Karen, at home; three brothers, Henry and Ewald of Ionia, and Edward of Waukesha, Wisconsin; one sister, Mrs. Henry Rutz of Magnolia, Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Monday, March 9, at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Theodore Timler officiating. Interment was in Balcom Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Phelps Funeral Chapel. Honorary pallbearers were Guy Eddington, Robert Guernsey, Fred Bishop, Alex Reusser, Paul Coover, Michael Kawalski, Allan Williams, Ora Thronton, and Henry Castle. Bearers were Clayton Huntley, Gerald Almy, Everett Heintzelman, William Leik, Martin Succop, and Frank Sharp. A memorial fund will be established in his memory for the St. John Lutheran Church building fund.
