Mr. Lewis Miller, a former resident of Ionia and a graduate of the Ionia High school, died in Chicago at an early hour Wednesday morning. His death is the result of the fever which he had some 18 months ago. One week ago last Sunday an operation was performed for an absess, which operation he endured well and there were hopes of his speedy recovery. He leaves a wife and two children. Mrs. Millers’ maiden name was Lida Brooks, daughter of N.K. Brooks of Ronald. The remains will be brought to this city for burial. The time of the funeral is not decided upon, but will be either Friday or Saturday. ------------ Funeral of Lewis P. Miller The remains of the late Lewis P. Miller reached the city by the D., L. & N. road at 11:25 Saturday morning, accompanied by Mrs. Miller and her three-year-old son, Stanley, Mr. Suthen Mr. Miller’s Chicago partner, Mr. Walter, manager of the Philadelphia branch of their publishing business and L.H. Jennings. The remains were encased in a handsome black casket and were taken to the Disciple church where they were viewed by many of the friends of deceased and family before the funeral services which took place at 1 o’clock p.m. The floral offerings which were arranged upon and about the casket were exceeding beautiful, some of the rarest being a pillow, by Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Smith; a magnificent floral harp; “Gates A jar” with the words “At Rest” across the portal, the gift of fourteen gentlemen friends of the deceased; an anchor presented by the clerks in his Chicago office and numerous others. The services were conducted by Rev. W.H. Scott, pastor of the Church of Christ, who spoke in terms of the warmest eulogy of deceased, whom he had never heard spoken of except in terms of respect and admiration. He was only 35 years of age but had already set out upon a highly successful and honorable business career. He was prospering, had a happy home and his premature death in his prime is a sad dispensation of providence which falls with a heavy weight of sorrow upon his bereaved family. The pastor’s remarks were touching and appropriate. The interment was at Highland park and large concourse of friends, both from the city and surrounding country attended.
