Ionia Sentinel Standard, 3 Jan 1938

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Sophia Miller, 87, were held from the St. John’s
Evangelical Lutheran church in Ionia Monday afternoon, January 3, at 2:30 o’clock,
with Rev. Herbert P. Dorn, of Grand Rapids, officiating.  Prayer services were held
at 2 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. R.A. Rook, of Ionia.  Pallbearers were Lewis
Lemke, Albert Lemke, Clyde Ross, Raymond Miller, Leonard Hausserman, and Erwin Kohn,
all of Ionia.  Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Charles Lemke, Miss Esther Lemke, and
Miss Eleanor Tafel.

Mrs. Miller died Saturday, January 1, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Lemke,
of Grand Rapids, following an illness of the past four weeks.  She was born in
Stettin-Anklan, Pommern, a northern province of Germany, October 5, 1850.  In April
1880, she came to the United States, and married Ludwig Miller, of Ionia, in 1881. 
Mr. Miller died in 1899.  She lived in Ionia until 1915, when she moved to Grand
Rapids, and had visited in Ionia several times since then.

She is survived by three children, William C. Miller, of Ionia; Mrs. Frank Lemke, of
Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Frank Miller, of Detroit; 11 grandchildren and two great
grandchildren.

Those attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lemke, of
Grand Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Kohn, of Howard City; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Lemke, of
Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Winters, Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Thorne, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Heitman, of Lansing, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heiden, of South Haven.
