Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, 21 Jul 1920

Mrs. Delia Mills, one of the old residents of Ionia and vicinity, died at her 
home at ?? Union street, early Sunday morning after an illness of four weeks at 
the age of 88.  Mrs. Mills was the second white child born in the village of 
Lyons and was the third child of Mr. and Mrs. David Irish.  The family moved 
from Lyons to Ionia where Mr. Irish had charge of the Eagle hotel which 
occupied the place where the Bailey house now stands.

In 1858 Delia Irish married Lucius F. Mills, who went into the war later, being 
a member of the 1st Engineers and Mechanics division.  After Capt. Mills 
returned from the war, he was engaged in building operations in Ionia, building 
many of the finest homes of that time.  He also built the Central school house, 
and about the same time his own home farther down the hill.  Mr. Mills died in 
1906.  Mrs. Mills has occupied the same house ever since it was built, a period 
of over 50 years.

Mrs. Mills was the mother of four children:  Edwin L. Mills, Mrs. Bessie M. 
Johnson and Miss Kate I. Mills who survive her, and one child, Mrs. Edith L. 
Hudson, who died in California in 19?6.  One grandchild, Miss Ruth Johnson, 
also survives.

The funeral will be held at the house Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. M. L. 
Marshall and Rev. W. K. Spencer will have charge of the services, and interment 
will be in the old family lot at Oak Hill.

Mrs. Mills is also survived by a sister, Miss Laura Irish of this city, and a 
brother, Ed. Irish of Petoskey.
