She did not seem to have any disease; it was a literal wearing out of the vital forces. She attended church the Sunday before (Nov. 1), but as she slowly walked to her usual seat, which she has occupied with remarkable regularity for over thirty years, it was evident to many in the congregation that the end could not be far away. Her maiden name was Eliza Turner; she was born April 16, 1805, in Norfolk, Conn. She was married to Rev. Louis Mills, Jan. 11, 1824. They came to Michigan in 1842, settling first at Coldwater. Mr. Mills afterwards did pastoral duty at Eckford, Tekonsha, Clarenden, Saginaw City, Farmington and Howell. They came to Ionia in 1852, Mr. Mills being called to the pastorate of the Presbyterian church when there were only 28 members and not a male member residing in the village. Mr. Mills died in 1872. There were born to them eleven children, seven sons and four daughters, all of whom are now living except the second son (Joseph) and fourth daughter (Louisa). The names of the living children are: Edwin R., Marshall; Rev. Henry, Canton, Ill.; Albert, San Diego, Cal; Lucius F. and Mary E., wife of M. Wetterling, this city; Emily M., wife of E. M. Marble, Miss Ellen M., and Samuel J., of Washington, D.C., and Dr. James P., Chicago.
