In company with his young friends he was at Grand River bathing. He was unable to swim and getting into deep water and a strong current was carried under. He gave no alarm, but his friends seeing him go under attempted to save him. One of the boys did reach him, but was unable to bring him out. The alarm was soon given to the citizens and all Saturday night was spent in dragging the river for the remains. Sunday morning he was found half a mile below the place where he was drowned. Marsh has lived in Ionia about three years, coming here with his parents from Kalamazoo county. During his residence here he has made numerous warm friends, and his sudden death has saddened our community. The funeral, which took place at the residence, was largely attended by our citizens, and especially by the young friends of the deceased. The services were conducted by Rev. Milton S. Bradley, of Gull Prairie, an old friend of the family.
