George W. Mills, 82, of Newaygo, formerly of Saranac, passed away Wednesday, 
July 31, 2002, at his residence.  He was born Jan. 24, 1920 in Harrison, the 
son of Lawrence and Jennie (David) Mills.

He was graduated from Saranac High School and was a World War II veteran of the 
Army.  He would go on to marry Cathryn DeGroat March 1, 1942.  She preceded him 
in death on Nov. 13, 1982.  He would go on to marry Beatrice VanderPan on Jan. 
15, 1984.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Newaygo; sons, George Mills Jr. of 
Saranac; Roy Mills of Grand Rapids; daughters Katherina (Donald) Hewitt; Susan 
Shipman of Holland; Mary Carol (Donald) Edwards of Texas; Robbie (Lloyd) 
Mutschler of Clarksville, Roxie (Steve) Ridgeway of Grand Rapids; stepchildren 
Thomas and Mary French Ainsworth, of Ionia; Susan (Edward) Domine of White 
Cloud; half-sisters Mary (Pete) Laupp of Marshall, Mary (Ronald) Peck, of 
Florida; Linda (Richard) Kindell of Kalamazoo; several grandchildren and great-
grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by sister-in-law Maxine Mills and 
stepson Robert Ainsworth.

Funeral services for Mr. Mills is 1 p.m. Friday at the Lake Funeral Home in 
Saranac.  Visitation is 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the funeral service.
