March 18, 1991 LANSING- John R. Mills, 70, formerly of Lansing, died March 15 in New Port Richey, Fla. He was born Aug. 28, 1920 in Jackson and had been a resident of the greater Lansing area for most of his life. He retired as Warden of the Camps Program after 38 years with the State of Michigan, Department of Corrections. He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church; the Houghton Lake Lodge # 1982, B.P.O. Elks; Houghton Lake State Employees Retirement Association; White Deer Country Club of Prudenville; Seven Springs Country Club of New Port Richey, Fla., and attended St. Stephens Episcopal Church of new Port Richey; the Reformatory Pistol Club; N.R.A.; M.U.C.C. and the Michigan Conservation Foundation. Surviving are: his wife Lurella of New Port Richey, Fla.; two sons, John, Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. and Ray Gazlay of L'Anse, Mich.; two daughters, , Connie Marenich of Lansing, and Maurine Slaughter of Interlocken, Mich.; seven grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Horey of Jackson; one niece and one nephew both of Jackson. Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. James W. Field at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Lansing. Burial will be in Deepdale Memorial Park. Pall bearers will be John Elmquist, Perry Johnson, John Jabe, Rudy Stahlberg, Dan Bolden, Dave Haskell. The family will be at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials have been established for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
