She was born in Reed City in 1875, one of 10 children. Her parents, John and Martha Holquist, emigrated from Grandhult, Sweden. In 1900 she married Henry J. Milton, of Ionia. They worked several years at the Bailey Hotel in Ionia and then established the Plaza Hotel there which they operated successfully for over 40 years until ill health necessitated their retirement. Her eldest daughter, Mrs. Eva Phelps, of Detroit, expired August 5, 1941, and Henry Milton September 14, 1944. Mrs. Milton herself has been in poor health for several years, and was seriously ill five weeks following a stroke. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John Vultaggio of Ferndale and Mrs. Sydney Noble of Grand Rapids; three granddaughters, Karen Kay and Kathleen Noble of Grand Rapids and Martha Phelps Roberts of Ionia; two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Mitchell of Reed City and Mrs. Ellen Kobutsky of Manistee; two brothers, Anton and Ephram Holquist, both of Reed City, and a niece, Mrs. Wilbert Roberts, of Ionia. Funeral services were held at Boynton’s funeral home, Ionia, Saturday, and interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.
