Her death occurred at Ann Arbor last Saturday morning, wither she had gone for a surgical operation, in the hope of finding relief from the serious and painful illness that for a number of weeks past had laid her very low. Although somewhat better that she had been, her strength was not equal to the trying ordeal, and after the operation on Wednesday she gradually grew weaker until early Saturday morning when the end came. It was a sad homecoming for Mr. Miner, who a few days before had accompanied his wife to the hospital in the hope that she would not only survive the operation, but be permanently cured— sad too, for the mother and daughter and other relatives at home, who awaited the coming of the lifeless body of their loved one. The funeral was held at the Methodist church on Monday afternoon, and is said to have been the largest ever held in Lake Odessa, the crowd outside the church, unable to gain admittance, being nearly as large as the crowd inside. The services were conducted by the pastor, and in the obituary notice that was read a fitting tribute was rendered to the deceased. The choir of the church furnished the music, rendering appropriate selections. The floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. There was a large floral harp from the members of the church, a beautiful pillow from the employees of the Minor store and a beautiful cross from the ladies of the Woman’s Club and W.C.T.U. beside numerous other flowers. Mrs. Miner was a member of the M.E. church, and was one of the active workers of the Ladies Aid Society. She as also a member of the Eastern Star, the W.C.T.U., and the Woman’s Club, and the members of these various organizations feel sorely afflicted in her death. Her maiden name was Dora Belle Haight. She was born at Woodland, Michigan, October 1, 1863, being at the time of her death a little over forty years of age. Her entire life has been spent in this community and the large funeral is not to be wondered at, for she was well and favorably known. She was united in marriage to Mr. Otis Miner, February 9, 1890, and for 13 years walked by his side, faithfully discharging her duties as his companion and helpmate. The deceased is also survived by her daughter Gaylia, the daughter of a former marriage, and her mother, Mrs. Margaret Haight. To these mourning relatives the sympathy of a large circle of friends is warmly extended. Mrs. Miner was of a vary social nature, and was highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Always attentive to the interests of others, good to the sick and unfortunate, these were the qualities that made her so universally popular. Her sufferings of the last few months were sanctified to her spiritual good, and so through trial she was made strong. During her illness the Bible with its precious promises, was to her a source of great comfort. She “Knew in Whom she put her trust and was persuaded that He was able to keep that which she had committed unto Him against that day.” The Wave joins their numerous friends in sympathy to the sadly bereaved relatives and especially to the husband, daughter and mother, upon whom the stroke falls heavily. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall L. Cook, Mrs. Clement Smith, of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McLischy, of Middleville, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Freedly, of Sunfield; Mrs. Eva Capell, of Ann Arbor.
