Outwater of Saranac on the death of Nellie B. Minor, who was drowned in Grand River April 22d. A deep pall of sadness seems hanging in air; Our hearts are in mourning, your sorrow we share, For Nellie, your own darling Nellie, is gone, And still the dark river flows silently on, Nor yieldeth its treasure though long days have passed, Since your child to its pitless current was cast; And death sought to win her, but conquered was he, For let children, our Savior said, come unto me. So a beautiful angel leaped down from the sky, Clasped her close to his bosom, and bore her on high, All lifeless the casket; Death claimed as his own, For her glorified spirit to Jesus had flown, And perhaps could you hear her voice speaking today, In her own childlike account she’d joyously say, “Your Nellie’s in Heaven look not to the river, But hither, dear Mamm, dear Papa, look hither. The body of Nellie Minor, who was recently drowned at Saranac, was recovered on Sunday about three miles below the village.
