DeWitt Minturn, which occurred at the residence in South Ionia on the 17th inst., following a brief illness from pneumonia. Mr. Minturn had been in Portland only a few days previous, shaking hands with his many friends, and few here were aware of his illness. Rev. E. E. Branch, of the Ionia Baptist church, officiated at the funeral services, which were held at the late residence last Friday, and the remains were brought here across country for interment. Mr. Minturn was a native of Moravia, N.Y., having been born at that place October 11, 1854. He came to this vicinity 10 years later and after his marriage to Miss Dora Cornell settled on a farm in Orange township, where he resided until moving to South Ionia a couple of years ago. The widow who has been totally blind for years, and a daughter, Mrs. Percy Churchill, of Ionia, survive. The former had been cared for by her husband with unusual tenderness and grave fears are felt for Mrs. Minturn as a result of her companion’s death.
