The Ionia Daily Sentinel-Standard, Monday, December 20, 1943


Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Mitchell were conducted from the Myers funeral 
home Sunday at 3 o’clock by Rev. Henry Hanson, of St. John’s Episcopal church.  
Interment was in Highland Park cemetery.

Rev. Hanson read into his sermon a tribute written by Louis E. Rowley of 
Lansing, a brother of Mrs. Mitchell and one  time editor of the Ionia Daily 
Standard, who was prevented by blindness and other physical disabilities from 
attending the services.

In his tribute Mr. Rowley recalled their childhood life on a 30-acre farm four 
miles northwest of Ionia and incidents connected with their attendance at the 
Dildine school, a mile from their home.

The death 15 years ago of her husband, the late Stephen M. Mitchell, was 
followed during the past two years by the loss of her two sons.

Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Rebekah lodge and a past noble grand.
