Mitchell, 88, of New Port Ritchey, Fla., died Friday at Tarpon Springs Hospital in Florida. He was born in Harris Twp., Ottawa County, Ohio, on May 3, 1896, the son of Jacob and Emma Limmestahl Mitchell. The family moved to Isabella County, Mich., living near Clare where he attended schools. He was married to Lillian Robinson in 1922 at Mt. Pleasant. She preceded him in death in 1954. He had been employed at the Carnation Condensery in Pompeii, Mich., until moving to Ionia in 1928. They made their home on a small orchard in rural Orleans. Beside the orchard, he started working at the Michigan Reformatory, working there for 34 years before retiring in 1961. He was married to Evelyn Blades in September of 1960 in Detroit. They have made their home in Florida for the past 16 years. Surviving are his wife: Evelyn; two sons: Eugene (Bud) Mitchell of Grand Rapids, Donald Mitchell of Seattle, Wash.; seven daughters: Mrs. Andy (Eva) Wicks of Costa Mesa, Calif., Mrs. Dwight (Kay) Killion of Ionia, Mrs. Richard (June) Weiers of Sheridan, Mrs. William (Maxine) Hicks of Magalia, Calif., Mrs. Clayton (Joyce) Williams of Gowen, Mrs. JoAnn Troxel of Tampa, Florida, and Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Hoppough of Orleans; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. A son Harold Mitchell was killed in service during World War II in 1942. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. from the Leddick Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Nixon of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Ionia County Unit of the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
