Mrs. Alice Mitchell Dies At The Home Of Her Daughter In Grand Rapids. The remains of Mrs. Alice Mitchell of Grand Rapids were brought here for burial Tuesday morning, she having died quite suddenly as the result of a stroke of paralysis. The deceased and her daughter, Mrs. Maude Kalmbach, wife of Geo. W. Kalmbach, had been calling at her nephew’s, Lucien Jersey’s, in the evening and while returning to their home, 622 Fairview avenue, on the street car, she was suddenly stricken, and removed to an ambulance, but died before reaching home. Alice Jersey Mitchell was born in Romeo, Mich., in 1849, and came with her parents to Otisco township and later to Belding. About twenty years ago she moved to Lansing and for the past eight or nine years she has resided with her daughter in Grand Rapids. Mrs. Mitchell was sixty-eight years old at the time of her death, and besides her daughter she leaves four brothers – Peter J. Jersey of Cleveland, Ohio; Henry A. Jersey of Lansing, and Edward W. Jersey of Belding, and Niel Jersey of Saginaw. The funeral was held at the home of E. W. Jersey Tuesday afternoon, where a number of old neighbors friends and relatives from abroad came to pay their last respects to the memory of an excellent woman. A profusion of beautiful flowers and floral offerings covered the casket. Rev. Robert S. Nash of the Episcopal church officiated and Miss Marguerite Lamb and Mrs. Luther Berry sang, accompanied by Mrs. Byron Cook. The remains were laid at rest in the family lot in the old cemetery by the side of her father and mother, Peter H. and Margaret Jersey and brother, Frank Jersey. The bearers were: Chas. Madden, Ora Collier, John Rossman, Dell Cobb, Ray Ring and Daniel King. The brothers and their wives were all present at the funeral, except Henry A. Jersey of Lansing, who was unable to be present.
