Mleko, 85, of Portland, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and faithful friend, surrounded by his family, was taken by his Lord and Savior on July 20. He was born in Lansing, July 26, 1917, the son of Josef and Bronislava (Mazur) Mleko. George was a devout Catholic all his life and sacristan at St. Patrick's for the past 23 years, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. He supported his family of 13 children by working at Fisher Body in Lansing for 30 years. He resided with his wife of 57 years until her death in 1998 and since then with his dog Callie on Maynard Road in the home he built in 1956. He fondly recalled attending Michigan State University where he participated in Collegiate Boxing, working his way to the state finals in 1936. He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, gardening, carpentry, bird watching and golf cart riding along the river. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sidonia (Sally), son, Charles; grandson, Shawn; granddaughters, Kimberly and Audra, brothers, Msgr. Michael J. Mleko and infant twins, Peter and Paul; sisters, Mary Smith and Ann Behovich. He leaves behind daughters, Bonnie (C.G.) Luce of Scottville, Patricia (Gary) Wohlscheid of Portland, Mary (Doug) Shepard of Corunna, Barbara (Bruce) Pung of Morrice, and Pamela (Mark) Thelen of Metamora; sons, Michael (Victory) of L'Anse, Donald, Joseph (Margaret) and Larry, all of Baraga, James of St. Germaine, Wis., Gerald (Norva) of Mass City, Roger of Lake Odessa and Fr. John Hascall of Sault Ste. Marie; 47 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph of Lansing. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Shamaun Beas, Associate Pastor, July 23 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland, with Rite of Committal following in Portland cemetery.
