Monks, 80, who died Sunday evening at Ionia County Memorial hospital, will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Myers funeral home. He had been in ill health 10 years and hospitalized five days. Mr. Monks had formerly resided at 263 East Washington street over 30 years. He was born November 20, 1879 in Saranac, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Monks. He was one of the first auto mechanics in Ionia and was employed at Chamberlains for a number of years, also worked for George Coe, Ionia Hardware, Brunn Auto company and Ross Benedict. Mrs. Monks preceded him in death in November 1944. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George (Helen) Thomas; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Monks of Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Mina Hoxie of Saranac. Interment will be in the family lot at Balcom cemetery. Subsequent Publication: Wednesday, October 26, 1960 Funeral service was held at Myers funeral home Tuesday at 2 p.m. for Ray A. Monks, 80, who died Sunday evening at Ionia County Memorial hospital. The Rev. Wilfred G. Sawyier of the First Presbyterian church officiated and interment was in the family lot at Balcom cemetery. Bearers were Morris Benedict, Frank Gazella, James Jones and Morris Malone Out of town persons attending were Mrs. Tracy Johnson of Carson City, Mrs. Cecil Moss of Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Herron and Morris Malone of Detroit.
