Clara A. (Welch) Monks, 82, of 432 Jones Street, Ionia, died May 22 in 
Belding.  She was born Oct. 28, 1905, the daughter of William Berton Robinson 
and N. Arvilla Longstreth.  She was a housewife and co-owner of Ed’s Refinery 
with her husband, William.

Surviving are two sons, Hazen Welch of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Holt, 
and Phillip L. Welch of Lake Odessa; six daughters, Betty B. Bradley of 
Orleans, Carel Ferguson and Beverly Clark, both of Ionia, Ardis Wright and 
Delores Meeuwsen, both of Grand Rapids, Shirley Galloway of Lansing; 42 
grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; several 
nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, William, in 1970, and two 
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Hull Memorial Chapel in 
Muir, the Rev. Larry Frye officiating. Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.  
Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
