Nov. 21, 1940 PHILIP J. MONKS Philip J. Monks, 95, passed away Friday afternoon at 5:45 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Dorothy Carr after an illness of about ten days which developed into pneumonia. Mr. Monks was born in Keene township January 30, 1845 only son of Mr and Mrs Randall Monks. He had four sisters one of whom survives, his wife, the former Jane Starks, and two children, a boy and a girl preceded him in death many years ago. He spent his entire life of nearly a century in this community having been a farm in Keene and Boston townships. He had always ben in good health and until his death, kept his facilities, his sight was good, his hearing good and his mind and memory alert. Two years ago he suffered a stroke which deprived him the use of his legs but he sat up and used a wheel chair to get about the house. He had made his home with his sister for 20 years. He is also survived by a niece, Mrs. McLaren whose home is at Edmore but who has spent the past two years with Mr. Monks and Mrs. Carr. Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock, Rev. Frank Loomis officiating. Burial in White cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Adrian Sisson.
