Ionia Sentinel Standard
Elsie May Monks, 75, of 14 Marshall court died Monday afternoon at Sparta 
nursing home.  Her husband, Clyde, died January 9, 1962.  She was born July 14, 
1894 in Orange township, the daughter of William and Myrtie McCoy.  She had 
lived most of her life in Ionia, at one time worked at Ypsilanti Reed Furniture 
company.  She was a member of the Sparta Christian Reformed church.  

Surviving are a son, Clein Monks of Ionia and a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Collins of 
Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; three brothers, 
Cecil McCoy of Marion, Guy McCoy of Tucson, Ariz., and John Parker of Ionia; two 
sisters, Mrs. Otto Randall of Ionia and Mrs. Cecil Skipper of Belding.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 pm at Myers-Roetman funeral home in 
Ionia.  Rev Henry Hoekstra of Sparta will officiate and interment will be at 
Balcom Cemetery.
