Monte, a lifelong resident of Ionia, Michigan, died on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, in Kokomo, Indiana, at the age of 83. She was born June 9, 1932, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of George and Helen (Felton) Harolow. She was a proud graduate of Michigan State in 1952. She married Raymond L. Monte on Aug. 8, 1953. In Ionia, she served as president of the Ionia High School Band Boosters, participated in Woman’s Literary Club and quilting group, made costumes for the Ionia High School Drama Department, and was a proud member of First United Methodist Church. Though she had many accomplishments throughout her life, she was most proud of her faith in God. Her greatest joy came from her three beloved children and their families, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are two sons, Rick (MaryAnn) of Tucson, Arizona, and Randy (Shirley) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one daughter, Melissa (Ron) Byram of Kokomo, Indiana; five grandchildren, Morgan Monte, Louis Monte, Melanie (Mike) Lang, Kasey May, Patrick May; two step-grandchildren Kelly (Maurice) Wright and Amanda Byram; and seven great-grandchildren Jaylee Gillem, Taliah Wright, Reece Wright, Addison Wright, Bella Wright, Mariah Shepard, and Lilia Lang. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; infant son, Robert; son-in-law, Bruce May; and infant granddaughter, Elizabeth May. A Memorial Service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 105 E. Main St., Ionia on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at 11 a.m., with visitation preceding the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Ionia.
