Ionia Standard, 20 May 1904

Ethan Taylor Montgomery died Wednesday at the home of his son-in-law, C.W. 
Parsons, in Detroit, where he has been several months.  He suffered another 
stroke Tuesday, from which he was unable to rally.  His daughter Laura, who has 
been in charge of office here, happened to be making a visit to her parents at 
the time.  Mr. Montgomery was 62 years old, and had been a resident of Ionia 
for over 35 years.  No man held the respect and esteem of all acquaintances to 
a higher degree, and no man better deserved the confidence and honor of his 
fellows, by every attribute of character that goes to make a noble manhood.  
Besides his wife, he leaves three children: Mrs. C. W. Parsons, Miss Laura, and 
Mr. “Hal” Montgomery of Chicago.  Mrs. Wm. O. Webster is a sister of decedent.

The remains were brought to Ionia on Thursday for interment.
