Charles S. Montgomery, better known as Charley, was dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial hospital following his collapse. Born March 7, 1910, in Ionia he was a son of George and Clara McCord Montgomery and after graduation from Ionia high he was employed by Holland furnace, Pesche Packing, and worked at Brown Corp. for a period of 15 years before retiring August 1972. Since then he was employed by Ionia Free Fair Association. Surviving are his wife Fern of Ionia; a step-son Robert Bennett of Ionia five daughters, Mrs. Joanne Robinson of Grand Ledge, Mrs Doris Hopkins, Mrs Lillian Duke, Mrs Linda Dankenbring and Mrs Nancy Morgridge, all of Ionia, and a step- daughter Mrs. Marguerite Yahr of Ionia. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lilliam Speckin of Haslett, Mrs. Nellie Davis of Howard City and Mrs. Gladys Odgen of ionia. Service will be at 2 pm June 15, at Leddick funeral home, where Rev Roger Gifford of First Christian church will officiate. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home between 7 pm and 9 pm Friday. Burial will be in Easton cemetery.
