JO MONTGOMERY 1927-2017
Jo Montgomery, aged 90, passed away peacefully on Sept. 19, 2017, under the care 
of Heartland Hospice after a long hard battle against end-stage renal disease. 
She was born July 9, 1027, the daughter of Peter and Clara (Kenter) Wirtz. Most 
of her chiLdhood was spent in Ionia. Jo graduated from Ionia High School in 
1945. She worked at Mitchell Bentley, Lyons trim and Chrysler in Detroit, 
eventually retiring from there. She was active in bowling leagues before moving 
to the Detroit area for employment. She also enjoyed playing cards with her 
family and friends and her trips to the Casino. Jo is survived by three 
children, Ralph (Lorraine) Montgomery of Ionia, Olivia (Rick) Perrien of Ionia 
and Karen Hubbard (Bob Cena) of St. Ingnace; brother, Jack (Jo) Wirtz of Ionia. 
She leaves 11 grandchildren Jeff (Barb) Montgomery, Mark (Yun) Montgomery, Kelly 
(Dodd) King, Jennifer (Jerry) Cooper, Shannon (Carlo) Vendittelli, Rick 
(Phillie) Perrien, Tom Perrien, Matt (Rachael) Perrien, Benjamin Hubbard, 
Kenneth (Lucia) Hubbard and Gwendolyn (Levon) Allen; 16 great-grandchildren with 
another to arrive next month and four great-great-grandchildren.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband Judson in 1955 and her sister 
Jean Bogart in 2016.

Committal of ashes will be 11 a.m.. Tuesday, Sept 26, at Easton cemetery. A 
celebration of life will follow the graveside service at 1 p.m., Tuesday at the 
Ionia Moose Lodge in Ionia. Arrangements by Lake Funeral Home of Ionia. Memorial 
contributions may be made to Ionia Commission on Aging. Online condolences may
