Currigan currigan1932@concast.net September 15, 2023, 10:36 am Ionia Sentinel Standard-Sat.November 21, 1970 Man Found Dead in His DoorYard A 34-year old father of five children Jack Montgomery 419 Nicholson was pronounced dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial Hospital shortly after 7 pm Thursday. When he failed to respond to a call to come to the supper table the family assumed he wished to complete his outside work. But when he failed to show within a reasonable time, he was again called to supper. When there was no response, it was discovered he was laying on the ground in the dooryad, according to a sheriff deputy. A telephone company operator was alerted by a family member and an ambulance and county deputies notified by the operator County Coroner Dale Kauffman reported Montgomery was dead on arrival at the hospital but cause of death had not been determined Friday morning. Montgomery was a native Ionian, born in the community January 17, 1937, a son of Ralph and Lucille Simmons Montgomery. He attended Ionia high school, and was a former employe at Olds in Lansing. Mitchell-Bentley Corp and Peschke Packing in Ionia and most recently was employed at A.O.Smith-inland. He married Antoinette Falsetta, December 17, 1955 at SS.Peter & Paul Church of which he was a member.He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and S.S. Peter & Paul Commentators and was active in the Boy Scouts as an assistant scoutmaster. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Paul and Jack Jr. and three daughters, Suzan, Cynthia and Julieann, all at home. Also surviving is his mother, Mrs.Ralph Montgomery, a brother Robert of Ionia, and two brother Robert of Ionia, and two sisters, Mrs.Charles Strickling and Mrs.William Godden both from Ionia. Parish prayers will be said at 7:30 pm Sunday at Boynton-Leddick Funeral Home and he is to be honored by Knights of Columbus at 8;30 pm when prayers will be recited. Services will be at Ss.Peter & Paul Catholic Church at 10 am Monday, where a memorial has been established in his name at the chruch. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Death of Man Is Blamed on Coronary Attack A coronary insufficiency was described as the cause of death of a 34-year old Ionia father of five, following a medical examination Friday afternoon, according to Dale Kauffman, county coroner. Jack Montgomery of 419 South Nicholson street was found laying in his yard during the supper hour Thursday and was dead on arrival at Ionia County Memorial hospital shortly after 7 pm. Investigating officers had been told by members of the family he had failed to respond to a call for supper and was found stretched out on the ground.
