IONIAN KILLED IN CRASH
IONIA - A 17 year-old Ionian. Michael Moon, was killed in a two-car collision
Tuesday night at the intersection of Woods and Stedman Roads in Ronald Township.
Moon was pronounced dead at the scene by Ionia County medical examiner Dr. Darrel 
Opicka.

According to Michigan State Police who investigated the accident, Moon was
northbound on Stedman Road and was struck broadside by a vehicle driven by Kimberly Lemke, 21,
of Ionia, who was eastbound on Woods Road. The accident occurred about 9:50 p.m.

Trooper said a passenger  in the Moon vehicle, Patricia Weber, 17, of Ionia, was
injured and possibly paralyzed, but added, "we really don't know her condition" at press time.
She was transported to Ionia County Memorial Hospital and transferred to Blodgett 
Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids.

Lemke also was taken to Ionia County Memorial Hospital for treatment for leg
lacerations and other injuries, troopers said. The hospital said she was treated and released.

TROOPERS SAID that Lemke told them Moon ran the stop sign and she could not avoid
the collision.

Bill Bussell and Sons wrecker service was called to the scene to remove Moon's body
from his vehicle and both vehicles from the scene.

Ionia County Sheriff's deputies assisted Michigan State Police in policing the
accident, which remains under investigation.
