March 16, 1976 HOWARD I.MOON Howard I.Moon, 57, of 3691 South State road, died Unexpectedly Monday evening at Ionia Memorial Hospital. He had suffered a fatal heart attack. Born in Berlin Township march 21, 1918, he was the son of Wilbur and Viola Gunckel Moon, Sr. He attended the Coon School and Lake Odessa high School. He was a member of Company H Michigan National Guard serving one year.He served with the Army in World War II six years and was one of the few men in central Michigan area surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7,1941. He received his discharge from the military service in 1945. May 19, 1945 he was married to Rose Thomas at his parents home in Berlin township and they made their home in the Ionia area since. He worked at Fisher Body of Lansing, Specialty Block of Ionia and was employed at the Ionia Reformatory 16 years before retiring in 1972 because of ill health. He was an active member of Berlin Center United Methodist Church, belonged to the Gerard-Horrocks Post of American Legion and was a former member of the Restless Ones Travel Trailer Club. Besides his wife, Rose, he eaves two daughters, Mrs.Charlotte Bennett of Ionia and Marilyn Moon at home; mother, Mrs.Viola Moon of Belding; three brothers, David Gunckel of Conklin, Wilbur Moon jr., and Harry Moon of Ionia; and sister, Mrs.Gladys Walker of Belding. Services will be Thursday at 2 PM at the Leddick Funeral Home,Rev Lloyd Walker of the Berlin Center United Methodist Church will officiate and interment will be at Balcom Cemetery. Memorial had been established for the Berlin Center United Methodist Church. Family members will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM.
