Moon, Jr., 79, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Laurels of Kent in Lowell. He was born Dec. 25 1919, in Berlin Township, the son of Wilbur and Viola Gladys (Gunckel) Moon Sr., and was a lifelong resident of Ionia County. He was educated at the Koon School and Lake Odessa High School. He was married to Maxine May Ketner in 1938 in Ohio, and the couple had four children. He was then married to the former Margaret Miller Hanline in 1964. She preceded him in death in 1992. On June 21, 1997, he was married to the former Pat Pitchford. She survives. Bill was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the North American Hunt Club, a member of the Founders Club Whittington Center of N.R.A., the Western Michigan Rifle Club, and M.U.C.C. He was very active in hunting and conservation, wood working and gardening. He worked at the Oldsmobile plant for 22 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1983. Survivors include his wife, Pat; two sons, Robert (Carolyn) Moon of Ann Arbor, Kim Moon of North Carolina; two daughters, Phyllis (Jay) Rusnell of Pinkney and Jeanne (Tom) Blackstock of Texas; step-children, Tom (Norma) Hanline of Ionia, Beverley (Larry) Shattuck of Ionia, Sharon (Roy) Powell of Belding, Connie Parker of Prauge, Okla., Larry Dean (Carol) Oyler of Sheridan; sister, Gladys Walker of Belding; three sisters-in-law, Rose Moon of Ionia, Hermina Gunckel of Conklin and Alice Hove of St. Johns; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Howard, Harry and David. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 7, at Shiloh Community Church, with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Balcom Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, at Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Community Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church."
