Moon died suddenly at his country home at Cook’s Corners, Friday afternoon, shortly after five o’clock, within fifteen minutes of the time he first felt the attack and complained of not feeling well. Mr. Moon had been in his usual good health and was engaged in mowing his lawn when he first complained of not feeling well and went in the house to lay down. Mrs. Moon thought best to summon a physician, but by the time she had returned to the house, he was so far gone that he was unable to speak and he passed away within a few minutes and before medical aid could be given. Mr. Moon was the son of James and Lydia Moon and was born in this vicinity on March 12, 1850. He attended the district school at Cook’s Corners and grew to manhood and lived in that neighborhood all of his life. On April 17th 1872 he was married to Sarah Richmond, who survives, two children who were born to this union having died in infancy. Mr. Moon was a successful farmer and a good business advisor. He was supervisor of Otisco township for ten years, was sheriff of Ionia county for four years and at the time of his death he was a member of the board of directors of the Peoples Savings Bank, where his advice and counsel was held in high regard and where he will be greatly missed. He was also vice president of the Citizens Light Company and for the past year had been secretary of the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Co. at Ionia. He had been for many years an honored member of the Masonic order, Grattan lodge. His entire life had been spent in Ionia county and, with the exception of the few years at Ionia while holding offices which necessitated his living there, of Otisco township. He was always the foremost among those who worked for the moral, social and civic betterment of the community and was ever a staunch, true friend in time of need. To sum it up, Frank Moon was an excellent citizen and a friend to everyone. He was the last of the children of James and Lydia Moon and in his passing not only the people of this community, but the people of the entire county, have lost one of their most honored, influential and respected citizens. His funeral was held from the old home at Cook’s Corners, Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock and was largely attended by Ionia county officials and others from other places in the county. Rev. H. S. Ellis officiated and burial was made in Otisco cemetery.
