Moon, one of the old and respected pioneers of Eureka. He was at his home and went to the wood shed to split a stick of wood. His wife was at the barn doing some work and hearing a noise in the shed, she investigated and found him lying dead on the floor. He had apparently split the wood, put the axe in its place and turned to go in the house, when he fell on his face and undoubtedly expired at once. The deceased first settled with his parents in Otisco Sept. 1845, and later moved to Eureka, where he had resided for a half century. He was born in Ogden, N.Y. and was 70 years old at the time of his death. He married Rhoda A. Bigley and besides her he leaves a daughter, Mrs. E. A. Stokes, and a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was for many years The Banner’s valued correspondent from Eureka and his last items, written a few days before his death, were published last week. His weekly letters will be missed very much by our readers. The funeral was held at the above home of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stokes Sunday afternoon and was largely attended by old neighbors and friends. The Rev. W. F. Kendrick of Greenville officiated. Thus has gone another of the grand old pioneers. He was a member of the M. E. church, a Patron of Husbandry and an ardent lover of nature.
