He was born the son of John and Anna (Nolan) Mooney on Oct. 7, 1922 in Ionia. He graduated from SS Peter & Paul Academy. He served in World War II and in Korea in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married the former Floy "Biddy" Bradley on Jan. 7, 1950 in Ionia. She preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 1962. Mooney was a tool & die operator at General Motors in Grand Rapids for 40 and a half years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Saranac American Legion. Surviving him are one son, Steve Mooney of Ionia; two daughters, Linda Harlan of Greenville and Kris (Tom) Watson of Charlotte; two step-daughters, Shurl Finner of Ionia and Wyn (Bill) Chorley of Ionia; six grandchildren, Jennifer Morse, Carrie Hanline, Ryan Mapes, Janette Mileski, Nettie and Joe Mapes; eight grandchildren; one brother, Bob (Eileen) Mooney of Torch Lake, MI; seven sisters, Josephine (Bill) Heintzelman of Lowell, Ann Mooney of Lowell, Betty (Darwin) Holzgen of Middleville, Sister Bernadette Mooney of Grand Rapids, Katie (Elwood) Ruhl of Jackson, Miss., Esther (Arnie) Johnson of Grand Rapids and Martha (Mike) Baczewski of Sand Lake. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Mileski and two brothers, Ray and Francis Mooney. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Cook Funeral Home in Ionia with Pastor Wayne Otto officiating. Interment will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Ionia. Visiting hours will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rich St. Chapel of Cook Funeral Home, Ionia. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association in care of Cook Funeral Home."
