He was a member of SS Peter and Paul church and Holy Name society, and was in charge of maintenance for SS Peter and Paul church and academy from 1926 until 1958. He had been ringing the church bell for 37 years. Born at Hubbardston June 20, 1875, he was the son of John and Mary Marion Mooney. He was married to Anna Nolan February 28, 1922, and moved to Ionia in 1926 and had resided here since. Surviving are his wife, Anna; four sons, John Robert Mooney and Joseph Mooney of Ionia, Francis of Grand Rapids, and Raymond of Chicago; seven daughters, Ann Mooney, Mrs. William Heintzelman, Mrs. Darwin Holzgen, Mrs. Arnold Johnson and Martha Mooney of Grand Rapids, Sister Mary Bernadette of Essexville, and Mrs. Elwood Ruhl of Lansing; and 19 grandchildren. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers funeral home. Funeral mass will be sung Thursday morning at 9 o’clock at SS Peter and Paul church. Burial will be at St. John the Baptist cemetery at Hubbardston.
