He was born in Ionia township November 6, 1880, the son of John and Mary Mitchner Moore. Mr. Moore attended Ionia high school and graduated in 1904 and attended the University of Michigan for two years. With the completion of college he taught at Coon district school in 1906 into 1907. July 3, 1907 he married M. Theo Goodwin in Orange township. Their home was on a farm where Mr. Moore farmed until 1928. He later accepted work at the Ionia county road commission until 1941 and then was employed by C and O railroad until 1943 when he retired. The family moved from the farm in 1929 moving to the present address. Mr. Moore was a member of the First Methodist church and Ionia County Farm Bureau. He was active in church work, being a former superintendent of the Sunday school at the LeValley Methodist church and later at the First Methodist church in Ionia. He taught Sunday school classes and served on many church boards. His wife preceded him in death August 21, 1958 as did a brother, L.W. Moore. Surviving are one brother, Ralph Moore, Ada; son, John of Ionia; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Stretch, Tomah, Wis.; Mrs. Kathleen Stout, Ionia, and Mrs. Leora Stutes, Lansing, 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The family will be at Boynton funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be at First Methodist church Saturday at 2 p.m. The body will be at the funeral home until 12:30 Saturday when it will be taken to the church. Rev. Lester C. Bailey will officiate with entombment in Highland Park Mausoleum. A memorial fund for the First Methodist church is being established.
