Lyman Moore, Veteran Of Cooper’s Trade, Passes Away Friday. Lyman Moore, for many years a resident of Portland, passed away Friday evening at 9:00 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Sowle, in Culvertown, from a general breakdown caused by extremely old age. He had been infirm for several years and during the past few months his decline had been unusually rapid. He had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Sowle, since last April. Mr. Moore was more than 86 years of age at the time of his death, having been born in the village of Saline, Washtenaw county, Michigan, July 21, 1833. He was married three times, all of his wives having preceded him in death. His first wife, whose maiden name was Cowles, died October 11, 1867. They were married September 24, 1851. His second wife, Sarah Knowles, whom he married on November 19, 1864, died September 24, 1868, and his third wife, Mrs. Carrie VanDyke, whom he married on October 25, 1885, died February 9, 1909, in Portland. The children surviving Mr. Moore are Mrs. Fred Towner, of Danby, Archie VanDyke, of Beaverton, Michigan, John Moore, of Detroit, and Ernest Moore, of Eaton Rapids. Mr. Moore was a cooper by trade and followed this occupation in Portland for many years. He was unusually proficient in this line of work and was always envied more or less by his fellow workmen for the splendid specimens of work he put out. He had been a resident of this village since he was a comparatively young man and for many years made his home on south Lincoln street, near the standpipe.
