Three weeks ago last Sunday morning Moore, his wife and two little children rose with the morning sun and went about their day’s work and recreation with no thought of what the morrow held in store for them. During the day they enjoyed life as might any young couple with their two bright children. That Sunday evening a trip up to the arch bridge swimming hole was proposed and in company with another couple, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mahar, they went to cool off the heat of the day by a plunge in the waters. Fate brought the first sorrow of the day when it grabbed Moore and sucked him to the bottom never to rise again as a living being, but whatever Moore’s last thoughts might have been, they must have been for the safety and welfare of his wife and children, as to all indications he pushed her towards the shore as he disappeared. The funeral of the young husband and father over, the grief stricken young mother, left alone in their neat little home in the Howe addition, had scarecely settled down to her new situation in life, when last Tuesday she was herself stricken with illness and rushed to Community hospital in this city, where doctors pronounced her condition critical and with no hopes of recovery. She passed away at four o’clock Thursday afternoon, death being caused by a complication of diseases affecting the kidneys. Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mahar, 821 Harrison avenue, Sunday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. H.S. Ellis officiating and burial was by the side of the still fresh grave where her husband had been laid to rest shortly more than two weeks before. The death of Mrs. Moore is a tragedy of great moment to the two children. Moore, the father, was a millwright drawing fairly good wages and well liked in the position which he held with the Belding-Hall Company in their factory “A” plant. He had purchased a home and two acres of land in the Howe addition some time ago and his monthly payments had been paid so promptly and with such precision that he would have owned the place within a few years. He must have had the home-owner instinct in him, for the place had been beautified by him and repaired so that it is excellent condition, with grounds around it as spick and span as any well kept place in this city. After his death, the widow had about decided to go on with the battle as best she could, keep the home and bring up her children. Death, however, stepped in once more and with the taking of the mother the two children have been temporarily placed with an uncle at Ionia and the probability is that an administrator will be appointed to dispose of the property and settle up their affairs to the best advantage. Mrs. Moore, was born Viola Pollington, on February 27th, 1899, at Vassar, this state. Seven years ago she was married to Sherman Moore and to the union were born two children, Kenneth, aged 5, and Virginia, aged 3 years, who with a sister, Mrs. James Sarlow, of Ionia, and four brothers, James Pollington, of Rose City; William Pollington, of Sault Ste. Marie; John Pollington, of Ionia, and Peter Pollington, of Detroit, are left to survive.
