A wealth of flowers surrounded the casket and many of these were made up in designs of military significance from veterans’ organization, with a great profusion of cut flowers and individual pieces. The flowers were in charge of Bernita Simons, Leona Humphrey, and Doris Simons. The home was filled with comrades and friends for the services, which were conducted by Dr. W. F. Kendrick. A large delegation from John F. Girard post, American Legion, of which he was a member, attended in a body. Members of the legion, Charles Jack, Ralph Donalson, Forrest Beemer, Spencer Smith, Felix Bredice, and Harry O. Burke were the bearers. Mrs. R. A. Colwell and Mrs. Thane Benedict sang. As the commitment service was carried out at Highland Park cemetery and the casket lowered to the grave, a rifle squad from Company H, Michigan National guard, fired the final salute.
