Louis H. Morgenthaler, a resident of Ionia all his life and a business man here for many years, died at his home at 320 West Main street this morning after several weeks of illness, suffering much pain. He was born in Ionia in 1861, and his father having died when he was still very young, he went to work for George Gundr__ at the age of fourteen, and continued in the same store until his last sickness. He was the owner of the business after 1900, and was in the business altogether 45 years. In 1893 he was married to Miss Sophia Lauster?, who survives him. He is also survived by two sisters, Ms. Elizabeth Thompson of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Louise Fletcher of Lyons. Mr. Morgenthaler was one of those conservative, honest and reliable business men, who is held high in the estimation of the citizens, his neighbors and his family, a man of quiet ways, whose worth is unquestioned and whose influence is felt throughout the community. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon at three o’clock at the home. Rev. Strossman of the Evangelical church will officiate. Morgan Fletcher of Chicago, a nephew, is expected to arrive, as well as Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Fletcher.
