Her illness was of some three years duration, and during the three months last past, especially, did she fail rapidly. To the older people in the community, she will be best remembered as the widow of Henry Morgenthaler, who died in the same house, in the same month, 18 years ago. The surviving children are Louis, of this city, and Mrs. John Thompson and Mrs. Frank Fletcher, of Grand Rapids, all of them born in this city, where the parents settled in 1855 – or 37 years ago. As a mother she was devotedly wrapped up in her children, of quiet demeanor, and strongly attached to the welfare and duties of her home; as a neighbor she always had the confidence of all. In her death a truly good woman has gone to her reward. Mrs. Morgenthaler came to Ionia direct from Permasins, Germany. She was one of the original members of the German-Evangelical society here, and for 80 years was a prominent and respected member.
