Virgil was born July 3, 1925 at the family home in rural Fenwick. He was the 13th of 17 children born to Wilmer C. and Grace Baker Morris. He attended Barnes School and Sheridan High School. Wayne was mechanically gifted and served his family, friends and neighbors by fixing their lawnmowers, rototillers, yard tractors and chain saws. He loved to fish. Wayne served with the Navy Seabees, the 93rd NCB. He was stationed at Samor Island station in the Philippines and was discharged on April 8, 1946, from Great Lakes Naval Station. He was a life member of Sheridan VFW Post 5065. Wayne served on the board of Shiloh School and also on the board of Shiloh Community Church in Orleans. He worked as a milk hauler, factory worker, semi driver for Associated Truck Lines and the Department of Corrections. He retired from Riverside Correctional Facility after 32 years of service in the Ionia prison system. After his retirement, Wayne and Marian built a small vacation home at Lake Como in Florida, where they greatly enjoyed 25 winters. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Homer, Orval, Claire and Hartley; and four sisters, Esther Wilson, Elsie Reed, Gladys Blumenstein, Laura “Dora” Parks. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian Haynor Morris, who he married April 8, 1944; their three children, Cheryl and Herb Haines of rural Lowell, David LaVern Morris of rural Orleans, Kathriann Petersen of rural Greenville; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Earle, Wilmer, Fred and Robert; four sisters, Inez Walsh, Phyllis Stearns, Alice Child, Caroline Sage; and many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Shiloh Community Church, Orleans, with Pastor Ken Harger officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorials may be given to Ionia Area Hospice or Shiloh Community Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Johnson- Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding.
