Aug. 27, 2016 DR. JOHN E. MORRISON Dr. John E. Morrison, Jr. age 77, walked on ahead of us to his new life on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016. Dr. Morrison was born in Saranac, Michigan to the late John Eddy Morrison, Sr. and Vera (Young) Morrison. Dr. Morrison graduated from Saranac Community High School in 1957, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Michigan State, a Master's degree from the Univ. of Michigan, and a Ph.D. from the Univ. of Kentucky. Dr. Morrison was an irrepressible engineer and researcher for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for over 30 years and a former employee of Eaton Corporation. He was the past President of the International Soil Tillage Research Organization, held numerous patents, and traveled the world helping to improve agriculture in developing countries all over Asia, Africa, and Central America. In the mountains of Tennesee where he retired, he was a member of the Back Country horsemen and was active in the Hispanic Ministry of Nicoi United Methodist Church. Dr. Morrison was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton and enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, backpacking, writing poetry, painting, and designing agricultural machinery. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen (Jones) Morrison; his daughter, Suzie Coghlan and husband Michael, of Arlington, TX; two sons, John Eddy Morrison and wife, Nery Diaz, of Manhattan, NY, and Thanh Van Nguyen Morrison and wife Laycee Suiter, of Gainesville, FL; one grandson, Matthew Morrison, of Gainesville, FL; two granddaughters, Danielle Coghlan, of Houston, TX and Lisa Le, of Greensboro, NC; one sister, Dori McNeeley and husband Donald, of Ionia, Mi.; and one sister in spirit (and cousin by blood), Roberta Haynor, of Dearborn, MI. A memorial service and interment of ashes will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016 at the Saranac Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Unicoi United Methodist Church/Hispanic Ministry, 702 Virginia Street, Unicoi, TN 37692, in honor of John E.
