Morse Died After Long Illness - Practice Medicine Here for 17 Years. Veteran of Two Wars. Leaves Splendid Family. Masonic Funeral. For the past two months the serious illness of Dr. Frederick Lee Morse has been a source of great anxiety to his family and friends. Every thing has been done that could be done for his care and comfort administered by both loving and trained hands. Dr. Morse’s health began to fail while in service in the last World War and all efforts have been made for a mastery over the disease. He practiced until the middle of last December when he gave up work and made every effort to prolong his life that could be made. During the past two months he has been under the care of several physicians and two trained nurses. Death came Monday afternoon at 3:30, April 30th. Dr. Morse came to Lake Odessa seventeen years ago on April 21, 1906, when he purchased the practice and home of Dr. Day. He was a graduate of Saginaw Valley Medical College finishing May 11, 1898. He practiced in Sebewa until coming to Lake Odessa in 1906. He enjoyed a wide practice and took several short courses in different lines of his work to keep in line on new phases of medical science. Dr. Morse was a veteran of the Spanish war as well as of the World War. He readily accepted the call and volunteered his services. He was prominent in the management of the American Legion and was often consulted on its problems and management. He was public spirited and ever ready to assist in any enterprise for the benefit of the community. He was kind and courteous and always proved a friend in time of need. During his last illness he gave his heart to God, manifesting an experience of saving grace to his family and friends. He was a member of the Masons, Eastern Star, Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, and was actively associated with each, when his practice permitted. He leaves besides his wife, a son, George, who is in the graduating class here this spring and a young daughter, Frances. The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon in charge of the Masonic order. Rev. E.R. Showerman of the Methodist church and Rev. Thomas Laity of Lansing, a former pastor, gave splendid talks on the life of Dr. Morse as they knew him and George Gart and Leon Gilson sang, “Just As He Wills.” The Masons conducted the service at the cemetery and Arlington Corey sounded the last Bugle Call and the remains were left of the hillside amid a bank of beautiful floral emblems and tokens of love and esteem. Many were heard to say as they viewed the form of Dr. Morse, “Too bad one in the prime of life should be taken.” Dr. Morse was forty-eight years of age.
