John L. Morse was the father of Hon. Ben and J.D. Morse and died at Belmont,
Iowa, Aug. 22nd.  He came to Otisco with Amos Russell in 1837 and preempted
land, the following year in company with Russell, Rufus Cook and their families
settled at Cook’s Corners, all of them living in one shanty fourteen feet square
for a time.  Mr. Morse was supervisor of the township in 1840-42 and was a much
respected resident.  He moved to Iowa many years ago.
