Death of Mrs. L.E. Morse

Mrs. Leonard E. Morse passed away at her home in the village Thursday, October 
14th after a short illness, aged 76 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Lois Jane Lee was born in Freedom, Michigan, February 6th, 1839, and on October 
27th, 1870, was united in marriage to Leonard E. Morse at Dexter, Michigan.  
They moved to Portland township in 1872, locating on a farm on section 9, where 
they resided until moving to Lyons in 1882, where they have since resided.  She 
was a member of the Lyons M.E. church.  She is survived by a husband; her four 
children, Albert S. Morse of Edmore, Dr. Frederick L. Morse of Lake Odessa, 
Mrs. Caroline M. Cross of St. Paul, Minn., and Elizabeth I. Morse, and nine 
grandchildren.  A loving wife and mother, who left undone no duty; she will be 
missed by all with whom her daily life brought her in contact.

In the latest issue of the Portland Review is a notice of the death of Mrs. 
Philander Riker in which is the statement that Mrs. Morse and Mrs. Riker were 
life long friends.  Not only friends but they were cousins, and a strange 
coincidence is the fact that Mrs. Riker was born February 5, 1839, and Mrs. 
Morse on February 6, 1839.  Mrs. Riker passed away the 13th of this month and 
Mrs. Morse one day later, making their span of life exactly the same.

The funeral of Mrs. Morse was held from the home here Sunday afternoon at one 
o’clock, Rev. D. B. Davidson officiating.  The floral offerings were many and 
beautiful.  Interment in the Lyons cemetery.
