Last week the Observer mentioned that Darius Morse was seriously ill at the home of his son, Grant M. Morse. Some time since then Mr. Morse showed some signs of improvement; but it was only temporary and on last Monday morning about four o'clock he grew rapidly worse, lost consciousness and at six o'clock passed away, the immediate cause of his death being the bursting of a blood vessel upon the brain, although he had suffered some time from pneumonia. Mr. Morse was a native of Michigan, having been born at Lodi, Washtenaw county, Feb. 14, 1834 - being in the 57th year of his age at the time of his death. He came to Portland and settled upon section 8 in 1853. His wife was taken from him in May, 1874, and he had never remarried. Mr. Morse was at one time engaged in the mercantile business at Collins, for the past two years, however, he had been working in Reyerson & ______ meat market. The funeral services will take place in his son's residence to-day (Wednesday) at half past two o'clock.
