Morse, retired postal worker and organizer and leader of the one- time active Cannonball class of the Church of Christ died Saturday morning at his Berlin township home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 18, 1995 near Long Lake, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Myron Morse. After spending the early years of his life in rural Ionia county he came to Ionia and secured employment at the post office. He was a familiar sight on the streets of Ionia as city mail carrier for 40 years and three months. After his retirement in 1945 he moved to a home in Berlin township which he had built himself. Mr. Morse was married October 22, 1906 to Carrie Castle in Ionia by the Rev. D. H. Shelly. They resided for many years on Hackett street until his retirement when they moved to their Berlin home. He was well known in and around Ionia in connection with his activities as a Sunday school teacher at the former Church of Christ. He was instrumental in the organization of the Cannonball class of which was composed of a group of teenage boys numbering in the thirties. Under his direction the class purchased its own truck and camping equipment and for several years made many trips to various sections of the United States. Besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edmund Roberts and two grandchildren of Ferndale, and one sister, Mrs. Nora Taggart, of Grand Rapids. Private funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at an Ionia funeral home and graveside services following at 4 o’clock at the Balcom cemetery. Friends are asked to omit flowers and any desiring to contribute that amount as donations should contact Frank Judevine. They money will be given to the Cleveland Children’s Christian Home.
